LLC attorney costs
Lawyers typically charge $1,000 to $1,500 to form an LLC. This usually includes:
- Researching your LLC name
- Filing your Articles of Organization
- Drafting your LLC Operating Agreement
- Getting your EIN Number
- Providing other business documents and contracts
- And offering answers to your LLC and business-related questions
Having said that, the cost (and services offered) vary widely across the country.
Additionally, some attorneys offer specific packages and LLC formation “bundles”, while others offer complete bespoke and custom LLC formation services.
So it’s really best to get on the phone and shop around.

LLC attorney hourly rates
For additional help and services, most LLC attorneys charge an hourly rate.
And on average, that hourly rate is between $150 and $450 per hour. Often rates are higher in larger cities and more affordable in rural areas.
LLC attorney retainer
While business attorneys often charge a retainer (a “pay-some-upfront” fee) for other legal services, this is less common for LLC formation.
And honestly, I’d personally avoid something like this as it can often get expensive quickly.
Are there any alternatives to hiring an LLC attorney?
Besides hiring an attorney to form your LLC, there are other options (especially if you’re on a budget).
You can form your LLC yourself (see how to start an LLC) or you can hire an LLC filing company (see Best LLC services).
