LLC Processing Times

What is LLC processing time?

This is the time it takes for your state to review your LLC filing and enter it in their system. The specific time frame varies widely by state. But as a general rule, processing time begins once they receive your documents.

It doesn’t include the time it takes for the documents to get to them, or the time it takes for them to send the approved LLC documents back to you.

LLC Approval Times

What is LLC approval time?

This is the total turnaround time to get your LLC approved from start to finish. It includes the processing time plus any transit time to and from the state.

LLC approval time for mail filings

How long does it take to get an LLCLLC approval time (mail) = transit time to the state + processing time + transit time back to you.

Total approval time for LLC mail filings includes:

  • the transit time for your document to get to the state,
  • the time it takes for the state to review your filing, and
  • the transit time for the state to send you back your LLC approval.

The mail transit time usually takes one week each way. And processing time varies by state.

For example: If your state’s processing time is currently 2 weeks, your total approval time would be about 3-4 weeks.

LLC approval time for online filings

In most states, online filings are much faster than mail filings.

This is because you submit the filing online and the state returns your approval online. You can download your documents as soon as they’re approved, so there is no extra mail transit time.

In most states, LLCs filed online are approved within a week. However, some states have immediate approvals and other states can take several weeks.

Should I hire an LLC filing service?

Hiring an LLC filing service isn’t going to get your LLC approved any faster. Filing companies still have to wait for the state to approve your LLC.

However, the benefit of hiring a filing company isn’t to reduce LLC approval time. It’s to have someone else take care of the paperwork for you (and make sure it’s filed correctly).
